We Need Your Help!

Your gift is essential!

Caring for our dear ones in a manner respectful of their dignity far exceeds the income received from their small pensions, Social Security, or Medicaid. In fact, we must raise 48 percent of the income needed through fundraising – direct mail, church collections, planned-giving, grants, and events.

Further, as good stewards of what God has given us through your generosity, we must care for our aging buildings and infrastructure by making vital upgrades and repairs.

Following in the tradition set by Saint Jeanne Jugan, the Little Sisters of the Poor do not accept endowments or receive any other regular source of income. She believed that by being poor, we are completely free to rely on God’s Providence for all our needs. You are the instrument through which this is possible.

In the spirit of Jeanne Jugan, we hold you and your loved ones in our daily prayers and in the Mass offered in our Chapel each month for the intentions of our friends and benefactors.

Can you help us by making a recurring gift or one-time donation?

The day-to-day expense of providing for the elderly poor – individuals who have outlived their resources – is quite costly. Every donation counts. Each dollar helps us provide safe-shelter, loving care, nutritious meals, enriching activities, medical support, and nursing care to this city’s needy seniors.

There Are Many Ways You Can Help!

1

2

Sustained Giving

Join our committed group of supporters and become a ‘Sustained Giver’ by making a recurring donation – weekly, monthly, semi-monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, yearly. Recurring donations are steady, reliable revenue that make it easier for us to plan and budget and save us time and money. You can conveniently update and change your gift preferences at any time.
3

Planned Giving

Include us in your estate plan and help to ensure our survival into the future. Many people simply leave something for us in their wills, but there are many ways to help. Please contact your financial planner or estate attorney to discuss the best option for your situation.
4

Matching Gifts Programs

Request matching gifts from your employer. Many companies have opportunities for employees and retirees to have their donations of time and money to eligible nonprofit organizations matched with monetary gifts and grants from the company. When you donate to the Little Sisters of the Poor, simply request a matching gift from your employer, who then makes their own donation. Companies usually match donations at a 1:1 ratio, but some will match at a higher ratio. This means your donation can go twice as far!
5

Gift-in-Kind

Donate a “gift in kind.” Businesses and individuals can donate needed items such as food, personal care items and office supplies.

Workplace Giving

Participate in your employer’s workplace giving program. Simply designate the Little Sisters of the Poor for your payroll donations. Federal workers, retirees and government contractors are eligible to donate through the federal government’s workplace giving campaign – the Combined Federal Campaign. Our CFC # is 53116.

Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. For more information on how you can support our mission, please contact Heather Cave, director of development. She can be reached at 202-269-1831 or devwashington@littlesistersofthepoor.org.
