Seniors’ Golden Moments: Residents Go for LSP Olympic Glory in Summer Showdown
What a fantastic afternoon of community spirit and sport! Today, our Residents came together in the auditorium for their very own ‘Summer Olympics.’ The room was adorned with flags representing different nations, setting the stage for a series of exciting events that brought smiles, and medals to all.
From thrilling wheelchair and walker races to the exciting sharp shooting challenge, where participants aimed to land a small ball into five moving nets using a plastic gun, there was no shortage of entertainment and joyous laughter.
Classic games like cornhole, ring toss, javelin throw using pool noodles, and horseshoes, added a nostalgic touch, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.
To add a spark of friendly competition and ignite the Olympic spirit, gold, bronze, and silver medals were awarded to the participants, turning the friendly games into an exciting affair.
Reflecting on the event, Sr. Constance said, “The Residents had lots of fun trying their hand at various sports, even sharp shooting. A few of them really got into the competitive spirit!”
In a twist that touched everyone’s hearts, two Residents stole the spotlight with their indomitable spirit and determination. Racing on foot and utilizing their walkers for safety, these inspiring women walked twice the distance required, resulting in a heartwarming tie. Both smiled with pride as they received their gold medals. One Resident was over ninety and the other one-hundred-four years old. Proving that age is just a number when it comes to Olympic glory.
And of course, no celebration is complete without refreshments. Our Residents indulged in a spread of fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, cookies, popcorn, and punch making the day even sweeter.
These moments of togetherness and laughter truly embody the spirit of our community. As our Mother Foundress Jeanne Jugan used to say, “Making the Residents happy is all the counts.”
